A Belgian family company, Qualiphar has specialised in research and development, production and commercialisation of prescription-free medicines, food supplements, cosmetics and other health products for more than 100 years. Their services and know-how are also offered to third parties in Belgium and in more than 40 export countries.

Today, Qualiphar is one of the leading Belgian family-owned companies within the OTC (= ‘over the counter’ = self-care drugs free of prescription and health products) pharma industry with a top 3 position in key markets such as cough, sore throat, disinfection/wound care, food supplements, insect repellent products and nasal hygiene.

Qualiphar contacted threon to further professionalise their project management in the organisation.

The main reason why we deployed project management is because we wanted everything to run more harmoniously. In the past, projects were carried out, but not in a structured or unified way. Thanks to our growth, we have a tsunami of projects coming our way in the near future. Our biggest challenge is to complete those projects that are planned.

How did you come across threon?

We contacted threon because they are known in the market as real project management specialists. Our question was very clear: provide training to our people on project-based work and how to approach this in a very structured way.

How did threon respond to your request?

Threon proposed two workshops. During the first workshop, it soon became clear that we had no internal framework. There were actually no procedures or instructions. Then, under the guidance of threon, we acted very quickly to draw up a correct project flow. Of course, our own people were called in so that they could also provide their input.

Once that framework was ready, we trained the employees to work in a project-based way, as we wanted them to. This whole process went very smoothly and, thanks to threon’s flexibility, only had a lead time of 1 month.

What are the benefits of project-based working for you?

We notice certain obstacles much earlier. We can also budget better. We also see that people who start a project often ask critical questions at the beginning of a project. They wonder what their scope is, write out much more, also show the status of their project and what the budget is. There is much more thinking about how a project should run.

How would you describe the cooperation with threon?

In one word: practical! Of course we had a bit of theory, but by holding the sessions with very practical examples from our own company, we were actually able to work out our cases during those workshops. That gave us a big head start.
