Break the anti-change circle
Leaders play a pivotal role in navigating the complexities of change, from fostering psychological safety to addressing underlying organizational dynamics. Yet, many leaders unintentionally fall into defensive patterns, often referred to as the Anti-Change Circle, which can derail progress and trap organizations in cycles of “not-learning.”
The Anti-Change Circle occurs when pressures—such as the need for control, fear of failure, or embarrassment—lead both leaders and employees to unconsciously adopt defensive mechanisms. These behaviours, including avoidance, denial, and reductionism, block open communication, prevent accountability, and obscure the real issues that need to be addressed. Over time, this undermines trust, stagnates innovation, and inhibits meaningful change.
This exercise template is designed to help leaders and teams overcome these challenges. It provides a structured approach to recognize and address the barriers that can arise during times of change, enabling leaders to foster an environment where learning and progress can thrive.
Change is inevitable, but success isn’t guaranteed. Research shows that leaders who prioritize psychological safety and navigate change effectively have a greater impact on their teams and organizations. This template empowers you to lead with confidence and insight, ensuring that your change initiatives deliver real, sustainable results.
